How much does head-to-head matter? Some outside the committee meeting room think Louisville deserves to be ranked ahead of Clemson in spite of the Tigers 42-36 win over the Cardinals on Oct. 1. Strength of schedule is also a major component, and Clemson has three wins against teams currently ranked by the committee (Auburn, Louisville and Florida State), while Louisville has one (Florida State). Washington still controls its destiny in the Pac-12 North, and shouldnt be eliminated as a playoff contender after losing to a surging (and ranked) USC team, but the Huskies strength of schedule will now be placed under a microscope by the committee.3. The Big 12 is still on life support, but isnt eliminated entirely. The conference needed chaos at the top of the CFP ranking, and certainly got it on Saturday. Not only did three of the top four teams lose, but so did No. 8 Texas A&M and No. 9 Auburn. That should have a trickle-down effect and give OU a boost in the ranking, even if by default. Oklahoma is still undefeated in league play; West Virginia has just one loss and is playing tough defense; and Oklahoma State owns the head-to-head tiebreaker over the Mountaineers.
