KANSAS CITY, Mo.
Thomas Muller Jersey . -- Alex Smith huddled
with Chiefs offensive coordinator Matt Nagy in front of his locker, not more
than 15 minutes after Kansas City had beaten the New Orleans Saints on Sunday. If
they were already dissecting his performance, they werent going to find many
faults.Smith threw two touchdown passes in another calm, efficient outing, and
Daniel Sorensen returned an interception of Drew Brees for another score as the
Chiefs held on for a 27-21 victory.Everybody trusts Alex, man. Alex is a pro,
said Tyreek Hill, who made an acrobatic 38-yard TD catch to help the Chiefs
(4-2) win their ninth consecutive home game. Hes good. Hes the truth.Smith was
helped by another big game from Spencer Ware, the one-time fill-in for Jamaal
Charles whos become a star. He had 77 yards rushing to go with a 46-yard TD
catch. He runs with a lot of physicality and determination, but a lot of agility,
Smith said. Hes a good mix and I think you just see a guy who has great
vision.Brees tried to rally the Saints (2-4) once again, pulling them within
24-21 on a touchdown pass to Brandon Coleman with 2:33 left. But the ensuing
onside kick went out of bounds, Kansas City added a field goal and the Saints
could do nothing in the final 28 seconds to change the outcome.Brees finished
with 367 yards and three TD passes, and became the first player with 100 games
with at least 300 yards passing. But much of that offense came while he was
trying to rally his team. It was another uneven performance away from the
Superdome for the New Orleans quarterback, who was coming off a 465-yard game
last week against Carolina.Listen, weve set the bar pretty high at home, havent
we? We cant expect 500 yards on the road, he said. Its what home-field advantage
is, right? We can definitely execute better though.Meanwhile, the Chiefs showed
some moxie after falling into an early 7-0 hole.Wares touchdown on a screen pass
and Sorensens pick-six off a batted ball quickly turned the momentum, and Hill
added his long touchdown reception to make it 21-7 at the break. The Saints drew
within a touchdown on Mark Ingrams catch midway through the third quarter, but
the 2009 Heisman Trophy winner fumbled inside the Kansas City 10 with 8:26 left
in the game.Thats just everybody flying to the ball, said the Chiefs Marcus
Peters, who recovered it.The fumble with the Chiefs leading 24-14 proved to be
pivotal. New Orleans got the ball back and eventually scored, but the extra time
it took may have cost them a chance to win the game. You play a good team on the
road, penalties and turnovers, they can really do you in, Saints coach Sean
Payton said. Interception return for a touchdown on third-and-long, fumble in
the red zone and were not a good enough team to overcome some of those
mistakes.LOTS OF LAUNDRYThe Saints struggled with the crowd noise in Arrowhead
Stadium, getting flagged for four false starts and a delay of game. They also
got hit with two unnecessary roughness penalties, including one with just over
two minutes left that kept them from getting the ball back. With a veteran
quarterback like that, you dont really expect it, Chiefs safety Eric Berry
said.BETTER DEFENSEThe Saints defense voluntarily skipped their day off Monday
to review video, and it seemed to pay off. One of the leagues worst defenses
held Kansas City to just 326 yards of total offense.REID ROLLS 300The Chiefs
Andy Reid coached his 300th game Sunday. Most of those were over his 14 seasons
in Philadelphia, where he was 140-102-1. He is now 36-21 in his fourth season in
Kansas City.INJURY REPORTSaints: LB Dannell Ellerbe (quad), LB Stephone Anthony
(hamstring) and CB Delvin Breaux (broken leg) left New Orleans without three
defensive starters, while starting LG Andrus Peat (groin) was also out. Backup
LG Senio Kelemete later left with a stinger, forcing Tim Lelito into the
lineup.Chiefs: Starting CB Phillip Gaines (knee) was inactive, while Charles
(knee swelling) was active in a limited role . He had just one carry early in
the game. Things were going OK so I just let him ride there, Reid said. Im
trying to be as careful as I can with him in my ear wanting to play.---AP NFL

. The 25-year-old Japanese star has officially been posted by his club team, the
Rakuten Golden Eagles. MIAMI -- Ricky Nolasco followed his worst outing of the
season with his best. It resulted in a rare win for the Miami Marlins. Nolasco
struck out 11 and the Marlins stopped a season-high seven-game losing streak,
holding off the Arizona Diamondbacks 2-1 Sunday. "Weve been playing close games,
but it doesnt matter if you lose 10-0 or 2-1, you dont want to lose so it was
good to snap that and try to get on a roll here," Nolasco said. The Diamondbacks
scored once in the ninth. Mike Dunn, the Marlins third pitcher of the inning,
got pinch-hitter A.J. Pollock to ground out on a 3-2 pitch with the bases loaded
to end it. "Bend, but dont break, thats all that matters," Nolasco said. Marcell
Ozuna broke a scoreless tie with a two-run double in the sixth. Didi Gregorius
had three hits for Arizona, which had won four in a row. "Early in the game we
had a few chances, but we couldnt get the big hit when we needed it and
(Nolasco) got stronger," Gregorius said. Nolasco (3-5) was coming off an outing
in which he allowed six runs in five innings in a loss to Cincinnati on Tuesday.
"Ricky was great," Marlins manager Mike Redmond said. "Coming off a shaky last
start, but thats Ricky. Rickys been solid all year and I really wanted him to
finish that game. He looked good and was in complete control." But the Marlins
all-time wins leader bounced back with his best, earning his 79th career
victory. He gave up one run and five hits in eight-plus innings. "I felt good,
good command of all my pitches," Nolasco said. "The curve ball was really good
so that really helped a lot. I was able to spin it pretty much whenever I wanted
to." After hitting Cody Ross with a pitch in the fourth, Nolasco retired the
next 14 batters, striking out the side in the fifth and again in the eighth.
Gregorius led off the ninth with a double, finishing Nolascos day after 110
pitches, 74 for strikes. Closer Steve Cishek relieved got Paul Goldschmidt to
ground out as second baseman Derek Dietrich made a backhanded play up the
middle. Jason Kubel hit a sacrifice fly that mmade it 2-1.
Lars Stindl Jersey. "That was a huge play in
the hole," Redmond said. After Eric Chavez followed with a pinch-hit single and
Martin Prado walked, Dunn came in and walked Miguel Montero to load the bases.
Dunn retired Pollock for his second career save. "We had a good finish and I
thought we were in good shape with A.J. (Pollock) there," Diamondbacks manager
Kirk Gibson said. "It just didnt work out." Wade Miley (3-3) gave up two runs
and five hits in six innings while striking out six. He is 2-1 with a 0.89 ERA
in three career starts against the Marlins. "I felt good out there," Miley said.
"I was making pitches and throwing strikes. Just a couple of bad pitches cost
you late in the game, especially in a game like that where its 0-0. Youve got to
do better job." With the game scoreless until the sixth, Adeiny Hechavarria and
Dietrich singled and Ozuna hit a double off the left-centre field wall near the
386-foot sign. It snapped a scoreless inning streak for the Marlins at 14 after
Brandon McCarthy tossed a three-hit shutout on Saturday in a 1-0 win. "I thought
it was a home run, but its OK, a double, Ill take it," Ozuna said. Ozuna, a
22-year-old rookie outfielder, is hitting .295 since being called up on April
30. After getting nine runs on 16 hits in a series-opening 9-2 win on Friday,
Arizona scored just two runs on 10 hits in the final two games. "We got beat
around a little bit, but we were able to pitch some really nice games the last
couple of days," Redmond said. NOTES: Arizona pulled off a rare 2-1 putout in
eighth when Hechavarria popped up a bunt that bounced off catcher Monteros glove
and then corralled by pitcher Josh Collmenter after he bobbled it with his
barehand. ... Nolascos career high for strikeouts in a game is 16 at Atlanta on
Sept. 30, 2009. ... Arizona continues its road trip at Colorado on Monday as LHP
Patrick Corbin (6-1, 1.52 ERA) faces RHP Jon Garland (3-4, 4.89 ERA). Miami will
start RHP Alex Sanabia (2-6, 5.00 ERA) at home against Philadelphia LHP Cole
Hamels (1-6, 4.61 ERA).
